Stocking fillers for Christmas: small, handmade, thoughtful gifts from £5, chosen for the end of the bed on Christmas morning. You’ll find jumbo matches, incense, hand-poured candles, handmade soaps, cosy socks, pocket-sized books, wooden kitchen tools and tree baubles, all from independent UK makers. They’re the best small presents for under the Christmas tree, picked by us, and each one is the kind of gift that means a lot for not much money. Gift cards are available to spend online or in our Falmouth shop.
A good stocking is a mixture: something to smell, something to read, something to wear, something sweet, something useful and something to make you smile. This collection is arranged to help you build one, whether you’re filling a stocking for your partner, your parents, a friend or yourself, and it’s organised by budget so you can keep the total sensible. Every item is made in small batches, so these are nicer than the usual stocking fillers, and most are small enough to wrap and hide easily.
Stocking fillers under £10: Matches are the unexpected favourite, with Jumbo Matches in Cocktail and Femme (£6) and Pink Tiger, Palm Tree and Moonphase Matches (£5), which are good enough to leave out on a shelf. Sacred Elephant’s incense in five scents is £5. Kimchi: The Pocket Guide is £7.99, a lovely little book for anyone who likes to cook, and Stripe Papier Mache Baubles in navy or chestnut are £10 for the tree. COCO Chocolatier’s chocolate bars are a classic sweet treat.
Stocking fillers from £10 to £15: Moorlands long dining beeswax candles (£12), La Luna tin candles in two blends (£12.50), Le Bon Shoppe’s girlfriend socks (£12) and boyfriend socks (£14) in colours from clay to meadow green, Fran Bailey’s The Healing Power of Plants (£12.99), Molly Martin’s The Art of Repair and Botanicum Postcards (£14.99 each) all fit comfortably in this range.
Stocking fillers from £15 to £25: Wax Atelier’s double-dipped candles in black seaweed and tapered candles in pomegranate (£18), Moorlands short stubby beeswax candles (£18), Ambrose Vevers’ wooden spatulas (£18), La Luna jar candles (£20) and reed diffusers (£22), Oaken mohair socks (£22), a Wild Sage and Co soap gift tin (£22), Pico’s organic cotton knickers and boxer briefs (£18–£22), Botanique Workshop’s frilly candlestick holder and Slow Made Goods’ spalted wood scoop (£24), and glass baubles (£16) are the more generous end of the stocking.
Stocking fillers for her: Soap, candles, a good book and a pair of socks make the easiest stocking. Try Wild Sage and Co soaps, a La Luna candle, Harvest’s calming face oil, The Plant Rescuer or Le Bon Shoppe’s girlfriend socks, with Oaken mohair socks for someone who feels the cold.
Stocking fillers for him: Wooden spatulas and scoops, incense, a pair of Pico boxer briefs, jumbo matches and a pocket guide to kimchi make a stocking that isn’t another bottle of aftershave. Oaken’s mohair socks and Le Bon Shoppe’s boyfriend socks are a safe, useful favourite.
Stocking fillers for people who love to cook: Ambrose Vevers’ wooden spatulas, Slow Made Goods’ all purpose scoop, Kimchi: The Pocket Guide, and a small Selwyn House oak chopping board all sit nicely in a stocking, or beside it.
Stocking fillers for plant lovers: Fran Bailey’s The Healing Power of Plants and Sarah Gerrard-Jones’s The Plant Rescuer are small, useful presents for anyone with a windowsill of houseplants.
Stocking fillers for the tree: Glass baubles in ochre yellow or orange on pink, and papier mâché baubles in navy and chestnut, make good stocking fillers or little extras to tuck in.
Why choose handmade stocking fillers: Most stocking fillers are made to be thrown away by January. These are meant to be used: lit, worn, read and put on display. Buying from small makers also means your money goes to the people who made them, and there’s nothing in this collection you’ll find in every shop.
