Liz Vidal; Dipped Stoneware

Liz Vidal creates tableware that sits well in the hand and is a pleasure to use. Training at Manchester school of art and with London’s North Street Potters, before travelling to throw pots in Bali and Australia, she is now settled at her garden studio in Bristol. Her pieces are all hand thrown and her current collection is recognisable for its decorative multiple glaze dips, overlapping and interacting with one another in beautiful ways.

Handmade pottery by Liz Vidal: hand thrown mugs, jugs, candle and incense holders and soap dishes in her signature dipped glazes, made in her garden studio in Bristol. Her tableware sits well in the hand and is a pleasure to use, which is why it’s one of the most popular ceramics collections in our shop. Every piece is thrown on the wheel by Liz, so no two are exactly alike. Gift cards are available to spend online or in our Falmouth shop.

About Liz: Liz studied at Manchester School of Art and trained with North Street Potters in London, then travelled to throw pots in Bali and Australia before settling in a garden studio in Bristol. Her current work is easy to recognise by its decorative double and triple glaze dips, where one colour overlaps another and they run and settle differently on every piece.

Mugs: Liz Vidal’s hand thrown mugs come in blue, caramel and earth, in short and tall shapes, and are the pieces most people buy first. A handmade mug is a gift that’s easy to give and used every day, whether for a birthday, a housewarming or Christmas.

For the kitchen and table: The dipped glaze jug, available in four glazes, is useful for water, flowers and sauces, and looks good on display.

For candles and incense: Candle and incense holders in white speckle and dipped glazes bring a handmade touch to a shelf, bedside table or Christmas table, and work well beside the candles and incense we sell.

For the bathroom: The dipped glaze soap dish is a small, practical piece of handmade pottery, and a good smaller gift.

Buying handmade pottery online: It’s easy to buy pottery online when you know what to expect. Each piece is made by hand, so the shape, size and exact glaze colour vary slightly from the photographs, which is the reason to choose handmade rather than factory-made ceramics. Look at the photographs of each colour and height, and choose a mug that suits how you like to drink, short for coffee or tall for tea. If you can, visit our Falmouth shop to see and hold the pieces before you buy, or buy online and exchange according to our returns policy. Because we buy directly from independent makers, you’re supporting a small studio rather than a large brand.

Gifts for Christmas and all year: A Liz Vidal mug, candle holder or soap dish is a thoughtful present for anyone who appreciates handmade pottery, and is easy to post and to gift wrap.
