Eloise Rose is a Falmouth based ceramicist, she often uses historical references to inspire the hand painted motif on each piece. Her background is in both period drama and opera costume design, mixed with heritage craft. After working across Europe in these areas, she began designing pieces for her home inspired by the rural design skills she picked up. On a whim, she signed up for a local market to sell some of her creations; her pieces were popular and naturally her business grew.
Inspired by majolica, a type of tin-glazed pottery that originated in Spain however was made popular by the Italians at the height of the Renaissance in 1500-1600. Her depictions of lemons and the contrast of the blue and egg yolk yellow really give the feeling of this traditional European pottery style, adapted with a more English painting style with more naive brush strokes and clear layering of colours.
